World Guard Plugin FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I create my first protected region?
Use `/wg region define ` and select two opposite corners of your area by left-clicking and right-clicking with a tool (usually a wooden axe by default). Then use `/wg region claim ` to claim it as yours, which prevents other players from building there.
Why can other players still break my blocks even though I made a region?
You need to set the region flags to actually block building. Use `/wg region flag block-break deny` to stop block breaking, or `/wg region flag block-place deny` to stop placement. Without these flags, the region exists but doesn't enforce any rules.
How do I let my friend build in my protected region?
Add them as a member using `/wg region addmember `, which gives them full building rights. If you only want them to have owner-level control, use `/wg region addowner ` instead.
Can I stop fire from spreading across my entire server, not just one region?
Yes—use `/wg flag __global__ block-spread deny` to disable fire spread everywhere. The `__global__` region applies rules to the whole world unless a specific region overrides it.
What's the difference between a region flag and a global setting?
Region flags apply only to that specific protected area, while global flags (using `__global__`) apply everywhere on the server. A region flag always overrides the global setting if both are set.
How do I stop mobs from spawning in a specific area?
Use `/wg region flag mob-spawning deny` to prevent all mobs from spawning there. You can also use `/wg region flag creeper-explosion deny` or similar flags to block specific mob damage instead.
Can I make a region where PvP is disabled but players can still use items?
Yes—use `/wg region flag pvp deny` to turn off player-versus-player combat only. Other item use and block interaction will still work unless you add separate flags to restrict them.
Does World Guard cause lag on my server?
It's generally lightweight, but you can check performance using `/wg profile -p` to see how much server resources it's using. Disabling unused flags and keeping region counts reasonable will help maintain good performance.
How do I delete a region I don't need anymore?
Use `/wg region remove ` to permanently delete the region and all its flags. Be careful—this action cannot be undone.
Can I make a region where players take no fall damage?
Yes—use `/wg region flag fall-damage deny` to prevent fall damage in that area. This is useful for safe zones or creative building areas where you don't want players to die from accidents.
