Wither Death Sounds Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the death sound after installing the mod?
Load into your world or server, then type either /function global_sound:global_on to make everyone hear deaths from anywhere, or /function global_sound:global_off to limit the sound to players within 500 blocks of the death.
What types of deaths trigger the Wither sound?
The sound plays when a player dies to swords, axes, maces, spears, TNT, TNT minecarts, or regular mobs in survival mode. Deaths from lava, drowning, fall damage, and the void do not currently trigger the sound.
Can I make the death sound only play for me?
Yes, use /function global_sound:global_off to limit the sound to a 500-block radius around the player who died, so distant players won't hear it.
Will the sound play if I die far away from other players?
If global mode is on, yes—everyone will hear it no matter the distance. If global mode is off, only players within 500 blocks of your death will hear the sound.
Does this mod work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, the mod is designed for multiplayer and uses server commands to control whether all players or only nearby players hear each death.
Why didn't the sound play when someone died to lava?
The mod does not yet support deaths caused by lava, drowning, fall damage, or the void—only weapon, explosive, and mob kills trigger the sound.
Can I switch between global and local sound modes during gameplay?
Yes, you can type either /function global_sound:global_on or /function global_sound:global_off at any time to change how far the death sound travels.
Does the mod affect performance or cause lag?
The mod only plays a sound file when specific death conditions are met, so performance impact should be minimal on most systems.
What happens if I die to a boss mob like the Wither?
Deaths to regular mobs trigger the sound, but the mod description does not specify special behavior for boss mobs—test in your world to confirm.
Do I need to run the command every time I load my world?
You only need to run the command once per world or server session; the setting should persist until you change it with the opposite command.
