Fixing YouTube Videos That Won't Load in WaterMedia
First Checks
If a YouTube link fails but a direct media file plays fine, the problem is almost always the YouTube plugin layer, not WaterMedia itself. Confirm the plugin is present and enabled in your mod list. If it is missing, YouTube URLs have nothing to resolve them and will simply error out.
Link Problems
- Make sure you pasted a real video URL, not a channel, playlist, or search page.
- Strip anything after the video ID if the link looks
cluttered. - Private, age-restricted, or region-locked videos often cannot be extracted at all — test with a normal public video.
Extraction Failures
NewPipeExtractor, the engine behind this plugin, occasionally breaks when YouTube changes something on its side. When that happens, every YouTube link fails at once while other media still works. The fix is to update the plugin (and WaterMedia) to a build that includes the newer extractor. Until then, no amount of re-pasting will help.
Network and Server Notes
On a server, the machine hosting the world needs outbound internet access to reach YouTube. If the server is offline or firewalled, extraction fails even though your client is online. Test on singleplayer first to isolate whether it is a network issue or a plugin issue.
