Optimize Particle Performance in Multiplayer

Understand the Detection System

Waterfall Particles checks a 20-block radius around each player every half second. In multiplayer with many players near waterfalls, this can create particle buildup. The data pack includes a built-in timer to manage this.

Reduce Particle Density

If performance drops near waterfalls:

  • Spread players out—particles only spawn near active players
  • Move away from waterfalls temporarily to let particles settle
  • Reduce your particle render distance in video settings

Server Configuration

On multiplayer servers, ensure the gamerule adjustment has been applied:

`

/gamerule max_command_sequence_length 100000

`

Run this once on server startup. This prevents command errors that could cause lag spikes when multiple players trigger waterfall effects simultaneously. The data pack's timer prevents excessive spawning, but this gamerule ensures smooth execution.
