Waterfall Particles Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the waterfall particles?
Load the data pack into your world, then run `/reload` in the command console to activate it. The particles should begin spawning around waterfalls within the next half second.
Why am I not seeing any waterfall effects?
Make sure you're within 20 blocks of an actual flowing waterfall—the pack only spawns particles in that radius around your player. Also check that particle effects aren't disabled in your video settings.
Can I use this on a multiplayer server?
Yes, the data pack works on both singleplayer and multiplayer servers. Each player will see particles spawn around waterfalls in their own 20-block radius.
Is this a mod or a data pack?
This is a data pack, not a mod, so it doesn't require any mod loader or client-side installation—just add it to your world's datapacks folder.
My server console is showing errors about command sequences. What do I do?
Run `/gamerule max_command_sequence_length 100000` to increase the command limit per tick. This allows the data pack to process all its particle commands without errors.
Will this slow down my game?
The pack uses a built-in timer to prevent excessive particle buildup and only checks a 20-block radius per player, so performance impact is minimal on most systems. If you experience lag, reduce particle effect distance or lower your particle settings.
Do the waterfall particles change the terrain or water blocks?
No, the data pack only adds visual particle effects and doesn't alter any blocks or terrain in your world.
Why do particles only spawn every half second instead of continuously?
The half-second interval is intentional—it creates a steady visual flow while preventing the particle system from being overwhelmed with too many effects at once.
Can I see waterfall particles in caves and underground waterfalls?
Yes, the data pack works anywhere there's flowing water, including underground cascades and cavern waterfalls.
Does this work with custom water or modded water blocks?
The data pack is designed for vanilla flowing water, so compatibility with modded water blocks depends on how those mods handle water mechanics.
