How to See Mobs and Items Underwater Clearly Using Water Improved
Use the Transparency for Exploration
Once Water Improved is active, water becomes see-through, which turns oceans, rivers, and lakes into readable spaces. Swim to the surface and look down before diving — you can often spot drowned, fish, squid, or dropped items from above the water line. This lets you plan a dive instead of blindly swimming into danger.
Practical Underwater Tips
- Scan from a boat or the shore first; the clearer surface means you can map out terrain and mob positions before entering.
- Bring a water breathing method and a light source, since transparency does not add light to deep water.
- Watch for hostile mobs like drowned that you can now see approaching from a distance, giving you time to surface or fight.
- Use the clarity to locate sunken structures, cave entrances, and ore veins exposed on the ocean floor.
Combine With Other Tools
Pair the pack with a potion of Night Vision or a Conduit to make deep water fully readable. Night Vision brightens what the transparent texture reveals, while a Conduit grants breathing and mining speed so you can act on what you see. The pack changes only appearance, so all vanilla mechanics still apply — you still need air, light, and proper gear to survive the dive.
