Vote Ban Plugin FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start a vote to ban someone?
Type /voteban [reason] in chat, replacing with the person's name and optionally adding why you're voting to ban them. Other players then have a set time to type /addvote to agree with the vote.
What's the difference between votekick, votemute, and voteban?
Votekick removes a player from the server temporarily, votemute silences their chat messages, and voteban permanently removes them from joining. All three use your server's existing punishment commands.
How many votes do I need to actually ban someone?
That depends on your server's configuration—it can be set to require either a specific number of votes or a percentage of players currently online. Ask your server admin what the threshold is.
Can I vote multiple times on the same person?
No, the plugin has built-in spam prevention that stops players from starting repeated votes on the same target. There's a cooldown period between votes to keep things fair.
Why can't I start a vote against certain players?
Players with the VOTEBAN.BYPASS permission cannot be targeted by any punishment votes—this is usually given to trusted members or staff to protect them from abuse.
What happens if I type /addvote but there's no active vote?
Nothing will happen; /addvote only works when a vote is currently running. Wait for another player to start a vote with /votekick, /votemute, or /voteban first.
Does the chat lock during votes?
Only if your server admin has enabled chat lockdown in the configuration. When active, it prevents players from chatting while a vote is happening so everyone focuses on voting.
What permission do I need to participate in votes?
You need the VOTEBAN.VOTE permission to type /addvote and cast your vote. Regular players usually have this by default.
Can staff members use these vote commands, or is it only for regular players?
Anyone with the appropriate permission nodes (VOTEBAN.STARTBAN, VOTEBAN.STARTKICK, or VOTEBAN.STARTMUTE) can start a vote, including staff. However, staff typically handle rule-breakers directly instead.
What happens after a vote passes—does the punishment happen automatically?
Yes, once the vote reaches the required threshold, the plugin automatically runs your server's normal ban, kick, or mute command on that player. You'll see a broadcast in chat confirming the result.
