How to Tune the Decibel Threshold and Vibration Frequency for Voice Chat Sculk Triggers

What These Settings Do

The decibel threshold decides how loud you must speak before your voice registers as a sculk vibration. The vibration frequency setting controls which frequency value your voice event uses, which affects how sensors and comparators interpret it.

Adjusting the Decibel Threshold

If sensors trigger from every breath, mouse click, or background hum picked up by your mic, raise the threshold. If you have to shout to make anything happen, lower it. Find a middle ground where normal speech triggers sensors but quiet room noise does not. Test by speaking at conversational volume, then at a whisper, and note which one crosses the line.

Setting the Vibration Frequency

Sculk sensors output different redstone signal strengths depending on frequency. If you are building a voice-activated door or trap, pick a frequency that does not collide with common vanilla vibrations like footsteps or block placement. This lets a comparator or calibrated sculk sensor distinguish voice from other sounds.

Iterating

Change one value, restart the server, and test in a safe area with a sensor and a comparator reading its output. Keep notes on which frequency and threshold combination gives you reliable detection without false positives. Once dialed in, the same settings apply server-wide, so coordinate with other players before finalizing.
