Measure and Optimize Chunk Generation Performance
Profiling Your World Generation
The mod tracks how long each generation stage takes, helping you identify bottlenecks in your custom worldgen.
Running Profiling
1. Stand in or near the area you want to profile
2. Run /chunkprofiling <range> (e.g., /chunkprofiling 10) to analyze nearby chunks
3. The command returns average generation times for each stage across all chunks in that range
4. Performance metrics are stored directly inside the chunks for later review
Interpreting Results
Look for stages that take significantly longer than others—these are your optimization targets. Common slow stages include:
- Noise generation (if using complex density functions)
- Structure placement (if many features compete for space)
- Processor lists (if applying heavy transformations)
Optimization Strategies
Use maxChunkStatus to test individual stages in isolation. Disable applyProcessorLists temporarily to see if structure processors are the bottleneck. Check your density functions with /getDensity to verify they're computing expected values efficiently.
