Vivid Structure Architect Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start using this mod for the first time?
Create a new testing world, then set the reloadRegistries gamerule to true using /gamerule reloadRegistries true. After that, edit your worldgen datapack files in your text editor and run /reload in-game to see changes instantly without restarting.
Why aren't my jigsaw blocks showing colors?
Jigsaw blocks are only color-coded when the mod is active and rendering is enabled. Make sure you're in a world where the mod is loaded, and check that your jigsaw blocks have both a name and target name assigned—blocks without these won't receive color coding.
What's the difference between /resetchunks and just reloading?
/reload updates your datapack files in memory, but /resetchunks actually regenerates the terrain around you so you can see the new structures and terrain in your world. You typically run /reload first, then /resetchunks to test the results.
Can I use this mod with my existing survival world?
Yes, but it's designed for testing and development—use it in a dedicated testing world to avoid accidentally corrupting your survival save. The chunk resetting and registry reloading features are meant for rapid iteration, not everyday play.
How do I find where a specific structure generated?
Use /locate feature and replace with the name of the feature you're looking for. The mod will show you the exact generation coordinates of nearby instances.
What does keepJigsaws do and why would I toggle it?
By default, jigsaw blocks are removed after structures generate. Enabling keepJigsaws leaves them visible in your world so you can inspect how pieces connected and debug structure assembly issues.
How do I check if my terrain generation is slow?
Run /chunkprofiling while standing in an area you want to test, and the mod will measure and display chunk generation times averaged across nearby chunks. This helps you identify performance bottlenecks in your worldgen setup.
Can I test only the noise/terrain without structures?
Yes—use the maxChunkStatus gamerule to limit chunk generation to specific stages. Set it to a lower stage like noise-only to test terrain generation without waiting for full feature placement.
What's the /chase command for?
/chase synchronizes player positions between two running Minecraft instances, letting you compare how the same location generates differently across two worlds or datapack versions side-by-side.
Why are some jigsaw blocks showing grayed-out arrows?
Grayed-out arrows indicate jigsaw blocks that are empty or deactivated. The mod renders them this way so you can visually distinguish inactive jigsaws from active ones during testing and avoid confusion when building structures.
