Visual Recipe Architect Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the Visual Recipe Architect editor?
Press K while in-game to open the editor menu. If K is already bound to another action, you can rebind it in your controls settings.
Can I create recipes for mods other than Create and Mekanism?
The mod supports Minecraft's vanilla recipe types (Shaped Crafting, Smelting, Blasting, etc.) plus specific recipe types from Create and Mekanism. Recipes for other mods must be written manually in KubeJS scripts.
What's the difference between a shaped and shapeless crafting recipe?
Shaped recipes require ingredients to be placed in a specific pattern on the crafting grid, while shapeless recipes work with ingredients in any arrangement. Choose shaped when the pattern matters for balance or theme, and shapeless for convenience recipes.
How do I use item tags instead of specific items in a recipe?
Click on a recipe slot and search for the tag name (like "minecraft:logs" or "forge:ingots/iron"). Tags let you create recipes that accept any item in that category, making recipes more flexible across modpacks.
Can I set drop chances or multiple outputs for a single recipe?
Yes—click on an output slot to set item count and drop chance percentage. This is useful for recipes that should produce variable amounts or have a chance to fail.
How do I remove a recipe that I don't want in my modpack?
Open the editor, navigate to the recipe removals menu, search for the item or recipe you want to delete, and click to remove it. The mod will generate a script that prevents that recipe from being registered.
Do I need to restart the server after exporting recipes?
Yes—exported scripts are written to your script folder, but the server needs to reload or restart to recognize the new recipes. Check your server logs to confirm the scripts loaded without errors.
Can multiple players edit recipes at the same time on a server?
Yes, the mod supports real-time collaborative editing on servers. Multiple operators can open the editor and make changes simultaneously, though you should coordinate to avoid conflicting exports.
Why can't I find an item when searching in the recipe editor?
Make sure you're typing the correct item ID (like "minecraft:diamond" or "create:brass_ingot"). If the mod isn't loaded, its items won't appear—check that all required mods are installed and enabled.
Does this mod work with Just Enough Items (JEI)?
Yes—the mod integrates with JEI so you can look up existing recipe layouts while building new ones, making it easier to understand what you're creating.
