How to Organize Potions and Tipped Arrows in Chests Using Icons
Sorting by Icon Color
Because every potion-related item now carries a colored icon and a matching colored name, sorting becomes a visual task rather than a reading task. You can build a chest layout that anyone on your server can navigate at a glance.
Suggested Layout
1. Dedicate one chest to drinkable potions and another to splash and lingering potions.
2. Within each chest, group items by icon color — all the same effect together in one row or column.
3. Keep tipped arrows in their own chest or section, since they share the same icon set as potions and are easy to confuse otherwise.
4. Label the chest with a sign naming the effect category if you play on a shared world.
Why This Works
- The icon is visible even when the item is in a chest slot, so you don't need to hover.
- Color-coded names mean you can confirm an effect without opening a tooltip.
- New players on your world can find what they need without asking.
Bonus Items
Special items like the Bottle o' Enchanting, pufferfish, and golden apple also receive icons, so you can give them dedicated spots too. Grouping these with your potion chests keeps all consumables in one area.
