How to Identify a Potion's Effect at a Glance in Your Inventory

Reading the Icons

With this resource pack active, every potion-type item shows a small icon that corresponds to its effect. Instead of hovering over each bottle to read the tooltip, you can now scan your hotbar or inventory and instantly tell what each item does.

• Potions, splash potions, and lingering potions all display the effect icon on the bottle itself.
• Tipped arrows show the same icon, so you can tell a Poison arrow from a Weakness arrow without checking the name.
• The item name is color-coded to match the icon, giving you a second visual cue if the icon is small on your screen.

Practical Steps

1. Open your inventory and look for the colored icon on each potion.

2. Match the icon color to the name color — if they agree, you've correctly identified the effect.

3. When sorting a chest or shulker box, group potions by icon color so you can grab the right one mid-fight.

4. If an icon looks unfamiliar, hover over the item once to confirm the effect, then rely on the icon from then on.

This is especially useful in PvP where a split-second misclick on the wrong potion can cost you the fight.
