Visceral Combat Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using Visceral Combat?
The mod works automatically once installed—just swing a weapon and you'll feel the forward lunge and impact freeze effects. If you want to move faster without attacking, press H to enter Holster Mode and stow your weapons.
What's the difference between heavy and fast weapons?
Heavy weapons throw you further forward when you lunge and create longer freeze pauses on impact, making combat feel weighty and deliberate. Fast weapons give you quick, short dashes and minimal freeze time, letting you chain attacks and reposition rapidly.
How do lunge charges work?
You have four lunge charges that refill slowly over time—each swing uses one charge. Once depleted, you must wait for them to regenerate before lunging again, so manage your attacks carefully in prolonged fights.
Why do I slow down before hitting enemies during a lunge?
The mod automatically reduces your speed as you approach a target to prevent you from flying past them uncontrollably. This keeps combat grounded and gives you time to react to what happens next.
What happens when my weapon hits something?
Both you and the target freeze briefly, the enemy gets knocked back in the direction your swing traveled, you bounce back slightly, and a glowing slash appears along your attack path. All momentum you built up releases at once when the freeze ends.
Can I attack while in Holster Mode?
No—Holster Mode disables attacks and hand-held items entirely. You must exit Holster Mode (press H again) to draw your weapons and fight.
Does this mod work with other combat mods?
Visceral Combat is built as an extension of Better Combat, so it requires that mod to function. Compatibility with other combat overhauls depends on how they modify attack mechanics.
What's the attack cooldown and how do I manage it?
After each attack, there's a cooldown period before you can swing again—this prevents spam clicking and forces tactical timing. Wait for the cooldown to finish before your next swing, or your attack won't connect.
Why am I bouncing backward when I hit enemies?
The knockback system pushes enemies away from your swing direction while giving you a small backward bounce—this creates dynamic spacing and prevents you from getting stuck in enemies.
Does Holster Mode work in combat situations?
Yes, you can activate it anytime to run faster, but you'll be completely defenseless since you can't attack or hold items. Use it for escaping danger or traveling, then exit when you need to fight.
