Pick Up and Transport a Villager

Basic Pickup

To pick up a villager, approach them while sneaking (hold Shift) and right-click. The villager will transform into a portable item form, similar to a spawn egg. You can now carry them in your inventory.

Important Conditions

You cannot pick up villagers that are:

  • Currently sleeping
  • Dead
  • More than 4 blocks away from you
  • Baby villagers (unless enabled in your config file)

Depending on your mod settings, picking up a villager may cost experience points based on their profession level. Higher-level villagers typically cost more XP to transport.

Placing Them Down

Once you have a villager in item form, travel to your desired location—even across different biomes or dimensions. Right-click on a block to place the villager back down. All their data persists: profession, trades, custom names, and trading progress remain intact. This makes relocating entire trading halls or moving villagers to new bases seamless.
