Villager Pickup Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I pick up a villager?
Hold Shift (or your configured sneak key) and right-click on a villager to convert them into a portable item. The villager must be awake, alive, and within 4 blocks of you for this to work.
Will the villager lose their profession or trades when I pick them up?
No, all villager data is preserved—their profession, trade progress, custom name, and other attributes stay intact when you pick them up and place them down again.
Why can't I pick up a baby villager?
Baby villagers are protected by default to prevent accidental transport, but you can enable picking them up by changing the `allow_baby_pickup` setting in the mod's config file.
Does picking up a villager cost experience?
Yes, the cost depends on the villager's profession level and is configurable—higher-level villagers typically cost more experience to pick up, but you can adjust or disable this cost in the config.
Can I move villagers to a different dimension?
Yes, you can carry a picked-up villager through a portal to another dimension and place them down there, making it easy to transport villagers across your world.
What's the glass sphere I see around villagers?
Some mod versions use a glass sphere visual effect to show that a villager has been picked up and is being carried—it's purely visual and doesn't affect gameplay.
Can I use this mod on a multiplayer server?
Yes, the mod works server-side, and vanilla clients can still interact with villagers normally even if they don't have the mod installed themselves.
Why won't the mod let me pick up a specific villager?
The villager might be sleeping, dead, or more than 4 blocks away from you—move closer, wait for them to wake up, or check if they're still alive.
Can I pick up Wandering Traders with this mod?
Wandering Traders and other custom entities may not be compatible with the pickup mechanic, so you might not be able to pick them up.
Does this mod affect performance or cause lag?
The mod is lightweight and shouldn't cause noticeable lag, but performance impact depends on your setup and how many villagers you're managing at once.
