Understand How Client and Server Render Distance Interact

The Render Distance Relationship

The View Distance Fix Mod only activates when there's a mismatch between client and server render distances. Understanding this relationship helps you use the mod effectively.

How It Works

  • Server render distance is the hard limit—no player can see beyond what the server sends
  • Client render distance is what your game tries to display
  • When your client setting is *higher* than the server's, the mod removes the fog that normally appears at the server's boundary
  • When your client setting is *equal to or lower* than the server's, the mod has no effect (there's no fog to remove)

Practical Example

If your server is set to render distance 8 and you set your client to 16, the mod removes fog at the distance-8 boundary. You see a clearer view of everything within 8 chunks. If you set your client to 6, you won't benefit from the mod—your client's own fog will appear at distance 6 instead.

For best results, always set your client render distance higher than your server's setting to activate the mod's fog removal.
