View Distance Fix Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to install this mod on my server, my client, or both?
This is a server-side mod, so only the server needs it installed. Clients do not need to have the mod to benefit from the fog fix.
Why am I still seeing fog even though I installed the mod?
Check that your server's render distance setting is actually lower than your client's; if they're equal or your client is set lower, the mod has no fog to remove. Also verify the mod is properly loaded on the server by checking the server logs.
Does this mod let me see beyond the server's render distance limit?
No, the mod only removes the fog effect that appears at the edge of the server's render distance—you still cannot see chunks beyond what the server allows.
What's the difference between client render distance and server render distance?
Server render distance controls how far the server sends chunk data to players, while client render distance controls how far your game tries to display. When the client is set higher, fog normally fills the gap; this mod removes that fog.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues on my server?
The mod is lightweight and only adjusts fog rendering, so it should not noticeably impact server performance.
Can I use this mod with other mods that change rendering or fog?
This mod should be compatible with most mods, but conflicts can occur with mods that heavily modify fog or rendering systems—check compatibility reports if you experience visual issues.
Does the mod work on single-player worlds?
No, this mod is designed for server-client scenarios where render distances can differ; single-player worlds don't have this issue since the client and server are the same.
What Minecraft versions does this mod support?
Check the mod's download page for the specific versions it supports, as this varies by release.
If I lower my client render distance to match the server, do I still need this mod?
No, if your client render distance equals or is lower than the server's, there is no fog to remove and the mod serves no purpose.
Does this mod require any configuration files or settings to work?
The mod works automatically once installed on the server without requiring manual configuration, though your server's render distance setting should be checked to ensure it's lower than what clients use.
