Understand How Vertigo Affects Your View Distance
What Vertigo Changes
Vertigo mod modifies how your client receives chunk data from the server. Normally, Minecraft loads entire vertical chunks regardless of where you are. With Vertigo installed, the server only sends chunk sections that are reasonably close to your vertical position.
How to Observe the Effect
When you're at ground level in a world with extended height, look up or down at extreme angles. Sections far above or below you will appear as empty air to your client, even though blocks exist on the server. This is intentional—the server is lying about distant sections to reduce data transfer and improve performance.
If you fly upward to a higher altitude, the sections that were previously hidden will load in as you approach them vertically. Similarly, sections below you will unload from your view as you move away.
Performance Impact
This behavior is most noticeable in modded worlds where height extends significantly beyond vanilla limits. You may see improved frame rates and reduced lag, especially when exploring vertically expansive terrain. The trade-off is that you cannot see extremely distant vertical layers, but gameplay remains smooth and responsive.
