Vertigo Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Does Vertigo work on servers or just single player?
Vertigo works on both single-player and multiplayer servers, but it must be installed on the server side to function properly. The mod needs to be present server-side to control what chunk data gets sent to clients.
Why are blocks disappearing when I look up or down?
Blocks appear to disappear because Vertigo intentionally hides chunk sections that are far above or below your vertical position to save performance. This is the mod working as intended—the blocks still exist on the server, they're just not being rendered on your client.
How do I know if Vertigo is actually running?
Check your log file for Vertigo initialization messages, or use a mod menu if you have one installed to verify the mod is loaded. You can also test by building tall structures and observing that distant vertical sections don't load.
Can I adjust how far above and below me blocks will load?
Yes, Vertigo has configuration options that let you control the vertical render distance for chunk sections. Check the mod's config file to adjust these values based on your performance needs and playstyle.
Will Vertigo cause problems with mods that add tall structures or dimensions?
Vertigo is designed to work with mods that increase world height, but compatibility depends on how those mods handle chunk data. If you experience issues with specific mods, check if there are known incompatibilities or try adjusting Vertigo's vertical distance settings.
Does Vertigo affect mining or building at different heights?
Mining and building work normally at any height—Vertigo only affects what your client renders visually. You can still interact with blocks outside your vertical render range; they just won't appear on your screen.
What's the difference between Vertigo and just lowering my regular render distance?
Lowering render distance reduces chunks in all directions equally, while Vertigo specifically targets the vertical axis. This means you can keep horizontal visibility while reducing the performance cost of tall worlds.
Why is my FPS still low even with Vertigo installed?
Vertigo helps with vertical chunk loading, but other factors like horizontal render distance, shader mods, or other performance-heavy mods can still impact FPS. Try adjusting Vertigo's settings and other graphics options to find the right balance.
Do I need to restart my world for Vertigo to work?
You don't need to restart an existing world—Vertigo applies its chunk-loading behavior immediately once installed and loaded. However, make sure the mod is properly installed before creating or loading worlds.
Can Vertigo cause chunk corruption or data loss?
No, Vertigo only controls what the client sees and doesn't modify actual world data. All blocks remain safely stored on the server, and unloading them from your view doesn't affect their existence.
