Adjust Shadow Quality and Softness

Access Shader Settings

Open your shader options by pressing the key bound to shader settings (default varies by launcher). Look for the VanillaRTXLite profile in your active shaders list and select "Shader Options" or "Settings."

Configure Shadow Parameters

Locate the shadow-related sliders. You'll typically find options for:

  • Shadow Distance: Controls how far shadows render from your character. Reducing this improves performance; increasing it extends shadow coverage across your world.
  • Shadow Softness: Adjusts the blur applied to shadow edges. Higher values create softer, more realistic shadows; lower values produce sharper, defined edges.
  • Shadow Intensity: Controls how dark shadows appear. Increase for more dramatic contrast, decrease for subtler lighting.

Apply and Test

After adjusting, apply your changes and load into a world with varied lighting—try areas with trees, buildings, or terrain features. Check shadows during different times of day (sunrise, noon, sunset) since the sun angle affects shadow appearance. If performance drops, reduce shadow distance or softness first. Fine-tune until you find a balance between visual quality and frame rate that suits your hardware.
