VanillaRTXLite Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I enable the shader after installing it?
Open Options > Video Settings > Shaders, then locate and select VanillaRTXLite Shaders from your shader folder. Click Apply and the effects will load immediately in your world.
Why do my shadows look blocky or pixelated?
Shadow quality is often set to a lower resolution by default for performance. Open the shader options (usually accessible via a settings button in the Video Settings menu) and increase the shadow map resolution to smooth them out.
Can I use this with resource packs?
Yes, VanillaRTXLite Shaders works with most resource packs, especially those designed to stay faithful to vanilla textures. Some heavily modified packs may cause visual conflicts, so test compatibility before committing to a pack.
My FPS dropped a lot after installing this. How do I fix it?
Reduce shadow quality, lower render distance, or disable advanced lighting features in the shader settings. You can also lower your overall graphics settings in Video Settings to find a balance between visuals and performance.
Why don't my torches and lanterns glow as much as I'd expect?
Light emission intensity may be set conservatively by default. Check the shader options for settings like "Emissive Brightness" or "Light Source Intensity" and increase them to make glowing blocks more prominent.
Does this work with Optifine or do I need Iris?
VanillaRTXLite Shaders is built for Iris and will not work with Optifine. Make sure you have Iris installed as your shader loader instead.
Why is water looking flat or not reflecting anything?
Water reflection settings may be disabled or set very low. Open shader options and look for water-related settings like "Water Reflections" or "Reflection Quality," then enable or increase them.
Can I use this on a multiplayer server?
Yes, shaders are client-side only and don't affect the server. You can use VanillaRTXLite Shaders on any multiplayer server without needing server-side installation or permission.
What's the difference between ray-traced lighting and regular Minecraft lighting?
Ray-traced lighting simulates how light bounces realistically off surfaces, creating softer shadows and more natural color bleeding between blocks, while vanilla lighting uses simpler block-based calculations. This shader mimics those effects without requiring actual ray tracing hardware.
Why do caves and dark areas look too bright or too dark?
Ambient light settings control how much light fills shadowed areas. Adjust the "Ambient Light" or "Global Illumination" slider in shader options to brighten caves or deepen shadows to your preference.
