VanillaConfig Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

What does the VanillaConfig Mod do?
It is a configuration API that lets mods easily and flexibly load and save their configs and generate vanilla-like config screens. On its own it does nothing; it only works when installed alongside mods that depend on it.
Does VanillaConfig add new blocks or items?
No. It is a configuration utility that adjusts vanilla Minecraft settings and gameplay values without adding new blocks or items.
Which mod loaders does VanillaConfig support?
It is a Fabric mod. You also need to install Fabric API alongside it.
What Minecraft versions does VanillaConfig work with?
The Modrinth project page lists 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, and 26.3. The wiki lists Minecraft 26.3 and above.
Do I need Fabric API for VanillaConfig?
Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and the author states you need to install it with this mod.
Is VanillaConfig useful on its own?
No. It only does anything when installed with mods that depend on it, so you should only install it if another mod tells you to.
Does VanillaConfig work on servers?
Yes, it is listed for both client and server.
What types of config values does VanillaConfig support?
It supports primitives (boolean, int, long, double, float), single-line and multi-line strings, lists of supported types, any Java enum, and Minecraft types such as identifiers or registry-backed values where the library version supports them.
Does VanillaConfig have an in-game config screen?
Yes. It can generate an in-game configuration screen that maps to your config structure, with each category becoming a UI section and each entry rendered with a checkbox, slider, text field, dropdown, or list editor.
How does VanillaConfig handle config versioning and migration?
Each config file has a version, and when you change or remove options you increment the version and define a migration step. If the file version is lower than the current version, all migrations run in order until the config matches the latest structure.
