Optimize Performance on Low-End Hardware
Reduce Render Distance and Shadow Quality
In Vanilish Shaders options, lower the shadow render distance first—this has the biggest impact on frame rate. Shadows won't render as far away, but nearby areas remain detailed. Next, reduce shadow quality or resolution settings if available.
Disable or Lower Bloom Effects
Turn down the bloom intensity or disable it entirely. Bloom calculations are expensive on older GPUs, and reducing this effect can recover several frames per second without sacrificing shadow quality.
Adjust Lighting Complexity
If your shader options include settings for dynamic lighting or light propagation, lower these values. Simpler lighting calculations run faster on potato PCs while maintaining the warm, natural feel Vanilish Shaders provides.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 (or your debug screen) to watch your FPS while making changes. Test in different environments—caves, forests, and open sky—since performance varies by scene complexity. Make incremental adjustments rather than changing everything at once, so you can identify which settings matter most for your system.
