Vanilish Shaders FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on Vanilish Shaders after installing it?
Open your Video Settings in-game, find the Shaders option, and select Vanilish Shaders from the list. The shaders will activate immediately and you'll see soft shadows and warm lighting applied to your world.
Why do my shadows look too dark or too light?
Open the shader settings (usually by pressing a key like Right Shift or through Video Settings) and adjust the Shadow Intensity slider to your preference. You can also tweak Shadow Softness to make shadows blend more smoothly with lit areas.
Can I use Vanilish Shaders with resource packs?
Yes, Vanilish Shaders works with most resource packs, but very bright or heavily modified packs may look unusual with the warm bloom effect. Test your favorite pack and adjust shader settings if needed.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling shaders. How do I fix this?
Reduce Shadow Quality or Shadow Distance in the shader settings, lower your render distance, or disable Warm Bloom if performance is critical. See the Optimize Performance on Low-End Hardware guide for more detailed steps.
Why do caves and indoor areas look too dark?
Vanilish Shaders respects vanilla lighting, so dark caves stay dark. Add torches or other light sources to brighten interiors, or check the shader settings for a Brightness or Exposure slider to globally lighten dark areas.
Does Vanilish Shaders work with mods that add new blocks?
Yes, most block-adding mods work fine with Vanilish Shaders. New blocks will receive shadows and bloom effects just like vanilla blocks, though custom block textures may look different depending on the resource pack.
Why is my lighting flickering or uneven?
This usually happens if shadow settings are too extreme or if there's a conflict with another mod. Try lowering Shadow Softness, disabling and re-enabling the shader, or check the Troubleshoot Flickering or Uneven Lighting guide.
Can I disable just the shadows or just the bloom effect?
Open the shader settings and look for toggles to disable Soft Shadows or Warm Bloom individually. If your shader version doesn't have separate toggles, you can set Shadow Intensity to zero to remove shadows while keeping bloom.
Does Vanilish Shaders change how mobs or players look?
No, mobs and players keep their normal appearance, but they will cast realistic shadows and may have a slight warm glow if they're near bright light sources. This is purely a visual effect and doesn't change gameplay.
Will Vanilish Shaders work on my old laptop?
Vanilish Shaders is designed for low-end hardware, but very old laptops may still struggle. Start with low shadow quality settings and follow the performance optimization guide to find the best balance for your system.
