Get Better Shadows in Caves and Indoors

Understand Vanilish Shadow Behavior

Vanilish Shaders casts shadows based on light sources like torches, lanterns, and glowstone. In caves with no light sources, shadows won't appear because there's no light to cast them. This is intentional—the shader respects vanilla lighting logic.

Place Strategic Light Sources

To improve shadows indoors, add torches, lanterns, or other light blocks. Position them at angles to create visible shadows from blocks and terrain features. Experiment with placement—light from above creates different shadow patterns than light from the side.

Use Lava and Glowstone

Lava and glowstone also cast shadows in Vanilish Shaders. These create warmer-toned lighting and shadows compared to torches, adding visual variety to underground bases and caves.

Adjust Ambient Light Settings

If your shader options include ambient light or cave brightness controls, increase these slightly to make unlit areas more visible while preserving shadow depth. This balances exploration atmosphere with practical visibility without relying solely on placed light sources.
