Debug Entity Issues Using UUID
Troubleshooting with UUIDs
When entities behave unexpectedly or you need to investigate their properties, the UUID command provides the identifier needed for deeper inspection.
Getting Entity Information
1. First, find the problematic entity's UUID:
`
/uuid @e[type=villager,limit=1]
`
2. Use that UUID to inspect the entity's data:
`
/data get entity <UUID>
`
3. Review the output to check health, inventory, status effects, or other properties.
Common Debugging Tasks
- Stuck entities: Confirm the entity exists and check its position data
- Behavior problems: Inspect AI tags and status effects
- Inventory issues: Check what items a mob or player is carrying
- Custom data: View any custom tags applied by datapacks or commands
Next Steps
Once you've identified the issue through the entity's data, you can use commands to modify or remove problematic entities. The UUID ensures you're only affecting the specific entity you're debugging, not accidentally changing others nearby.
