Unloaded Activity Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to configure anything when I first install this mod?
No, the mod works automatically out of the box. Once installed, any supported blocks that leave simulation distance will be tracked, and their growth/cooking will be calculated when they come back into range.
How far away can I go before the mod stops tracking my crops?
The mod tracks blocks based on simulation distance, which is the same range where the server normally processes block updates. Once blocks leave this range, the mod calculates what would have happened during the time they were unloaded.
Will my furnaces keep smelting if I go to the Nether or End?
Yes, furnaces will continue to smelt while you're in a different dimension, as long as they have fuel and items in them when you leave.
Does this work with crops I planted far away from my base?
Yes, as long as the crops are supported by the mod (wheat, carrots, potatoes, etc.), they will grow even if you're exploring far away and the chunks are unloaded.
What happens if I skip the night with a bed—do my farms advance?
Yes, when you skip the night, all supported blocks in unloaded chunks will be updated as if time had passed normally, so crops grow and furnaces cook during the skipped time.
Does this mod work with modded crops or furnaces?
The mod only affects the blocks listed in its supported list, which includes vanilla crops and furnaces. Modded crops and machines are not automatically supported unless the mod developer adds compatibility.
Will this cause lag or performance issues?
The mod performs calculations only when chunks are loaded, so it shouldn't cause significant lag. The performance impact depends on how many unloaded blocks you have tracked at once.
Can I use this mod on a multiplayer server?
Yes, the mod works on servers, but it will only track activity for chunks that are unloaded on the server side. Other players' activity in loaded chunks will still happen normally.
Does this affect copper oxidation or dripstone growth?
Yes, both copper block oxidation and dripstone growth are on the supported list, so they will progress even when unloaded.
What if I want to disable the mod for certain blocks?
Check the mod's configuration file for options to disable tracking on specific block types, though the base mod does not have per-block toggles by default.
