Unified Combat Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I cancel a spell by dodging?
Press your dodge/roll button while casting any spell that isn't whitelisted, and your character will immediately stop the cast and perform a dodge roll instead. This triggers the mana penalty and any magic backlash effects tied to that spell type.
What's roll lock and when should I use it?
Roll lock prevents you from dodging while you're preparing a magic attack, ensuring your spell completes. Enable it in the config if you want to commit fully to casting without accidentally rolling away mid-cast.
Can I dodge while casting any spell?
No—certain spells are whitelisted to allow free movement and dodging while casting, like Poison Arrow. Check the Spell Whitelist guide or your config file to see which spells let you move freely.
What happens if I try to roll when I'm not allowed to?
You'll see a screen message and hear a warning sound (both can be disabled in config) telling you that your dodge is blocked, but nothing else happens—your spell continues casting.
Does canceling a spell cost mana?
Yes, rolling to cancel a spell drains mana as a penalty. You can adjust the mana cost in the config, or disable the penalty entirely if you prefer.
What is magic backlash and how do I avoid it?
Magic backlash is damage or debuffs you take when canceling a spell—fire spells burn you, ice spells slow you, etc. You can turn backlash off completely in the config, or use the whitelist to cast certain spells without this risk.
What's roll queue and how does it work?
Roll queue automatically triggers a dodge right after your spell finishes casting if you pressed the dodge button just before the cast completed. You can adjust the timing window in the config to make it easier or harder to trigger.
Does this mod work with weapon attacks too?
Yes—rolling will cancel your current weapon swing, letting you dodge enemy attacks quickly instead of finishing your attack animation.
Will this mod slow down my game?
Unified Combat Mod is lightweight and designed to work alongside Iron's Spells and Spellbooks, Better Combat, and Combat Roll without major performance impact. If you experience lag, try disabling dodge particles or custom sounds in the config.
Can I customize which spells follow these rules?
Yes—use the Spell Whitelist feature in your config to pick which spells ignore roll lock, mana penalties, and backlash, giving you full control over how each spell behaves.
