Unhealthy Dying Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start losing health when I die?
The mod works automatically once installed—you'll lose max health on your next death based on the healthPerDeath config setting. Check your max health bar when you respawn to confirm it's reduced.
Can I set a minimum health so I don't die from the mod itself?
Yes, use the minimumHealth config option to set the lowest max health a player can reach. Once you hit this limit, further deaths won't reduce your health anymore.
How do I get my health back after losing it?
Enable the regenHealth option in config, then kill the mobs listed in regenTargets—each kill counts toward regaining max health based on the healthRegenned value you set. You can customize which mobs restore health and how often.
What does the HealthSetting option do?
It controls whether health loss is tracked per individual player, shared across all players, per team, or per FTB Team (if FTB Utilities is installed). Choose based on whether you want a shared penalty or individual consequences.
How do I use wildcards in the regenTargets list?
Use the syntax modid:mobname, healthRegenned, amount—replace modid or mobname with * to match multiple mobs. For example, [minecraft:*,1,10] restores health every 10 kills of any vanilla mob.
Can I get notifications when my max health changes?
Yes, set reducedHealthMessage to true to be notified when you respawn with reduced health, and regennedHealthMessage to true to be notified when you regain health from kills.
Does this mod work in multiplayer?
Yes, use the HealthSetting config option to choose how health loss is shared—you can make it per-player, global for everyone, or team-based depending on your server's needs.
What happens if I keep dying without regenerating health?
You'll keep losing max health until you reach the minimumHealth limit set in config, at which point further deaths won't reduce it further. Enable regeneration to regain health by killing mobs.
Can I regenerate more health from certain mobs than others?
Yes, the healthRegenned value in regenTargets controls how much max health each kill restores—set different values for different mobs to reward harder targets more.
Is there a way to disable health loss for specific players or situations?
The mod doesn't have built-in exemptions, but you can set minimumHealth very high or disable regenHealth to effectively prevent permanent loss; adjust config settings to match your server's difficulty.
