How to Apply a Custom Trim Material with the Trims Expanded Mod

Gather Your Materials

To apply one of the mod's new trim materials, you need three things: a piece of armor, an armor trim smithing template, and the material you want to use as the trim. The mod adds materials like Coal, Dragon's Breath, Echo Shard, Enchanted Golden Apple, Ender Pearl, Fire Charge, Glowstone Dust, Leather, Nether Brick, Prismarine Shard, Rabbit Hide, and Slime Ball to the list of valid trim materials. Note that some of these (like Dragon's Breath and Enchanted Golden Apple) are not stackable consumables in the usual sense, so make sure you have the exact item in hand before starting.

Use the Smithing Table

Place a Smithing Table and open its interface. Put your armor piece in the left slot, the armor trim template in the middle slot, and your chosen material in the right slot. If the combination is valid, the output slot will show the trimmed armor. Take it out to complete the trim. The pattern you get depends on the template you chose (the same templates used in vanilla, such as Sentry, Dune, Coast, etc.), while the color and visual style of the trim come from the material you supplied. Because the mod only expands the material list, the template system works exactly like vanilla — so any template you already know will accept the new materials.

Tips

If the output slot stays empty, double-check that your material is actually one of the mod's supported items and that you are using a real armor trim template, not a random smithing template. You can preview the result before committing, so experiment freely.
