Trims Expanded Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I apply a trim with the new materials from this mod?
Use a Smithing Table exactly like vanilla: place your armor piece in the first slot, a trim smithing template in the second slot, and one of the mod's new materials in the third slot. The trim applies immediately and consumes the template and material.
Which items can I use as trim materials with this mod installed?
The mod adds Coal, Dragon's Breath, Echo Shard, Enchanted Golden Apple, Ender Pearl, Fire Charge, Glowstone Dust, Leather, Nether Brick, Prismarine Shard, Rabbit Hide, and Slime Ball on top of the vanilla options. Each one gives the trim a different color or texture.
Do I need a smithing template to use the new materials?
Yes, the mod only changes which materials are accepted, not the smithing process itself. You still need a trim smithing template matching the pattern you want, plus the armor piece and the new material.
Why won't my trim apply even though I'm using a valid new material?
The most common causes are a missing or mismatched smithing template, using a material in the wrong slot, or trying to trim an item that isn't valid armor. Double-check that the template matches the pattern and that the armor is a trimmable piece.
Can I use the new materials on any armor type?
Yes, the new trim materials work on the same armor pieces that vanilla trims support, including helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots. They don't add trims to non-armor items.
How do I get a specific color or look from a new material?
Each material produces its own distinct visual result, so experiment by applying different ones to see which you prefer. If you don't like the result, you can re-trim the armor with a different material to overwrite the previous trim.
Does using a new trim material change the armor's stats or enchantments?
No, trims are purely cosmetic in this mod just like in vanilla. Applying a new material only changes the appearance and does not affect protection, durability, or enchantments.
Is this mod compatible with other trim or armor mods?
It generally works alongside mods that add new armor or templates, since it only expands the accepted material list. Conflicts can occur if another mod overrides the smithing recipe logic, so test combinations in a backup world first.
Will adding this mod break my existing trimmed armor?
No, armor trimmed with vanilla materials stays as it is. The mod only adds new material options and doesn't remove or alter existing trims.
Does this mod affect performance or cause lag?
The mod is lightweight because it only adds material-to-trim mappings and doesn't add new blocks, entities, or world generation. Any performance impact is negligible on both client and server.
