How do I transfer a pet I tamed to another player?
Get a Book & Quill and write the name of the player you want to transfer ownership to. Hold the book while looking at your pet and run /trigger transfer_pet_owner. The pet will now belong to the other player.
What counts as a pet for this mod?
Any mob you have tamed counts as a pet—this includes wolves, cats, parrots, and other mobs that show ownership in Minecraft. The mod works with any tamed mob that has an owner.
Do I need to be looking directly at the pet when I use the command?
Yes, you must be looking at the pet when you run /trigger transfer_pet_owner for the transfer to work. Your crosshair should be pointing at the pet.
What happens if I write the wrong player name in the book?
The transfer will fail or go to the wrong player. Make sure you spell the exact username correctly before executing the command, as the mod matches the name you wrote in the book.
Can I transfer multiple pets at once?
No, you transfer one pet at a time. You'll need to repeat the process (write the name, look at the pet, run the command) for each pet you want to transfer.
Does the new owner need to be online when I transfer the pet?
No, the new owner does not need to be online. The pet's ownership will change immediately, and the new owner can take care of it whenever they log in next.
What if the transfer command doesn't work?
Make sure you're holding the Book & Quill with the player name written in it, you're looking directly at the pet, and the pet is actually tamed. If it still fails, check that the player name is spelled exactly right.
Can I transfer a pet to a player who isn't on the server yet?
Yes, you can transfer ownership to any player by writing their username in the book, even if they haven't joined the server yet. The transfer will still work when they log in later.
Does this mod work on single-player worlds?
The mod is designed for multiplayer servers where you want to hand off pets to other players. On single-player, there's only one player, so transfers don't have a practical purpose.
Will the pet remember its old owner after the transfer?
No, once transferred, the pet's ownership changes completely and it will only respond to commands from the new owner. The pet will not retain any memory of the previous owner.
