How to Riptide Without Rain Using a Water Bucket
The Offhand Trick
Vanilla Riptide only fires during rain or thunderstorms, which makes it useless in deserts, the Nether, or under a roof. This mod removes that restriction as long as you are holding a water bucket in your offhand slot. The bucket does not get consumed or emptied — it just needs to be there.
Step-by-Step
1. Enchant a trident with Riptide (any level works).
2. Place a water bucket in your offhand (press F by default to swap it there).
3. Make sure your main hand holds the trident.
4. Look in the direction you want to launch and hold right-click to charge.
5. Release to fire. You will shoot through the air even in clear weather or underground.
Practical Tips
- Keep the bucket in the offhand permanently while exploring; you lose nothing by doing so.
- This works indoors, in the Nether, and in the End, so you can chain launches across gaps that would otherwise need elytra.
- If the launch fails, check that your offhand still has the bucket — picking up items or dying can move it.
- Combine with Feather Falling boots to
survive the landing after long chains.
