Torch Hit Mod FAQ

12 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I set a mob on fire with a torch in my offhand?
Hold a torch in your offhand slot and attack the mob with any tool in your main hand. The hit ignites the target for a shorter duration than a direct torch strike, so it works as a passive bonus while you fight normally.
Does the offhand torch work with any weapon or tool?
By default most tools and weapons can trigger the offhand ignition, but the mod's config lets you restrict which items count as valid attackers. If your offhand torch isn't igniting anything, check the tool rules in the config first.
How do I ignite flammable blocks with a torch?
Right-click or strike the flammable block with the torch in hand, the same way you'd use it on a mob. Blocks like wool, wood, and other flammable materials will catch fire from the torch's flame.
How much fire damage does striking with a torch deal?
A direct torch strike applies fire damage for a few seconds, roughly comparable to Fire Aspect I. You can adjust the exact burn duration in the config if the default feels too short or too long.
Can I use a torch in my main hand and a sword in my offhand?
The mod is designed around holding the torch in your offhand while attacking with a main-hand weapon or tool. Swapping the setup still works for direct torch strikes, but the offhand ignition bonus is what makes the torch-in-offhand combo useful.
Do soul torches work differently from regular torches?
Yes. Soul torches set mobs ablaze with soul fire, which behaves differently from normal fire. If you have the Soul Fire'd mod installed, this interaction is enhanced; without it, soul torches still burn mobs longer than regular torches, especially Piglins.
Why do Piglins burn longer when I hit them with a soul torch?
Soul torches apply a longer burn to Piglins as a special interaction. This makes soul torches a strong choice when fighting Piglin mobs in the Nether.
Can candles ignite mobs too?
Yes, candles can ignite mobs the same way torches do, but they break after a single use by default. You can turn off the breaking behavior in the config if you'd rather keep your candles.
Do modded torches work with Torch Hit Mod?
Most modded torches are supported out of the box, and the config lets you register additional items as torch-like. If a modded torch isn't igniting mobs, add it to the torch-like item list in the config.
How do I change how long mobs burn after a torch hit?
Open the mod's config and look for the fire duration settings for main-hand and offhand hits. You can set them independently, so a direct torch strike and an offhand ignition can have different burn times.
My torch isn't setting anything on fire — what am I doing wrong?
Check that the item is actually registered as torch-like in the config, and that your attacking tool is allowed under the tool rules. Also make sure the target is flammable or a mob, since torches won't ignite non-flammable blocks.
Does Torch Hit Mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod only runs checks when you attack or use a torch, so its performance impact is minimal. If you notice issues, it's more likely from the fire spreading to many blocks than from the mod's hit logic itself.
