Tools on My Back TOMB Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why isn't my tool showing on my back?
Make sure you're holding the tool in your main hand, then switch to a different item or empty hand—the tool will snap to your back once you stop holding it. If nothing appears, check that enableMod is set to true in your config file.
How do I add a custom mod item to display on my back?
Open /config/tools-on-my-back.json5 and add a new entry to the tools array with the correct itemId (you can find this by hovering over the item with advanced tooltips enabled), then set enabled to true and adjust scale, angle, and offsets to your liking.
My tool is floating away from my back or clipping into my body. How do I fix it?
Use the offsetX, offsetY, and offsetZ settings in the config to reposition the item—offsetZ moves it closer or further from your body, while offsetX and offsetY adjust left/right and up/down placement.
Can I use this mod on a multiplayer server?
Yes, the mod runs entirely on your client side, so you can join any server without needing the server to install anything—only you will see your tools on your back.
Does this mod work with resource packs and custom 3D models?
Yes, it fully supports custom resource packs and 3D models. If your item uses a 3D model (like a shield), make sure to set is3DModel to true in the config so it renders correctly.
Can I show my tool while wearing a cape or elytra?
Yes, both renderWithCape and renderWithElytra are enabled by default, so your tools will display even when you're wearing cosmetics. You can disable either option in the config if you prefer.
How do I rotate or tilt my tool so it looks better on my back?
Use the angle setting in the config file to spin the item to your preferred tilt—adjust the value until the tool sits at the angle you want.
Can I disable the mod for just one specific item?
Yes, set enabled to false for that item's entry in the config file, and it won't display on your back even when you switch away from it.
Does this mod affect my performance or cause lag?
No, the mod is lightweight and runs client-side only, so it shouldn't cause noticeable performance issues even with many custom items configured.
What's the difference between a flat item and a 3D model setting?
Flat items (is3DModel: false) are 2D textures that face forward, while 3D models (is3DModel: true) have depth and multiple sides—use the correct setting for your item so it renders properly on your back.
