TipTheScales Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the GUI scale slider?
Go to Options, then Video Settings, and look for the GUI Scale entry. With TipTheScales installed, that entry is now a draggable slider instead of a fixed button cycle.
Why is the GUI scale option still a button and not a slider?
Another mod is likely overriding the vanilla options screen, or TipTheScales isn't loading on the client. Check that the mod is in your mods folder and that no other options-screen mod is conflicting.
Can I use TipTheScales with Optifine?
No, TipTheScales does not support Optifine. If both are installed, the slider may not appear or the game may crash, so remove one of them.
Does TipTheScales work with Sodium?
No, TipTheScales does not support Sodium. Sodium replaces the video settings screen, so the slider won't show up correctly alongside it.
Is TipTheScales a client-side mod or does the server need it?
It is client-side only. You can join any server without the server installing it, and it only affects your own GUI scaling.
How do I get more GUI scale options on older Minecraft versions?
On older versions, TipTheScales unlocks additional scale steps beyond the default set. Just drag the slider in Video Settings to reach those extra values.
My GUI scale slider moves but nothing changes on screen. What's wrong?
This usually means a conflicting mod is handling the options screen instead of TipTheScales. Remove Optifine or Sodium, or any other mod that edits the video settings menu, and try again.
What's the best GUI scale to use?
It depends on your screen resolution and how much UI you want visible. Lower values show more of the world with smaller text, while higher values make the interface larger and easier to read.
Does TipTheScales affect performance or FPS?
No, it only changes the GUI scale value and the options screen widget. It does not add rendering work, so it shouldn't impact your framerate.
Why did my GUI scale reset after restarting the game?
Your options file may not be saving, often because the game crashed on exit or the file is read-only. Make sure the game closes normally so the chosen scale is written to options.txt.
