Tinkers Gadgets FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I craft my first weapon in Tinkers' Gadgets?
Start with a Boomerang since it doesn't require a Tool Forge—just combine two knife blades and a clasp in the Part Builder. Once you have basic materials like wood, stone, or metal, you can assemble it at the Tool Station and start throwing.
What's the difference between throwing a knife normally vs sneaking?
A normal right-click throw launches a single knife that you can recover from the ground. Holding Sneak + Right-Click fires a fan of three knives at once, spreading your damage across multiple targets or angles.
How do I get my boomerang to come back to me?
Boomerangs return automatically to your inventory after hitting a target or traveling far enough—you don't need to do anything special. Make sure you're not in a confined space where it can't travel back.
Why isn't my Heat Ray Gun firing?
Heat Ray Guns consume burnable fuel from your inventory (like coal or wood), so make sure you're carrying fuel items when you fire. The gun also depends on your tank and emitter material choices, which affect power and efficiency.
What does Charge do on the Chain Blade?
Each time your Chain Blade bounces off an enemy (up to six per throw), it builds Charge. When fully charged, you can Sneak + Right-Click to unleash a powerful melee sweep that hits in a wider area.
Can I customize my weapon traits with different materials?
Yes—clasp and grip parts let you add custom traits by using materials like glass, slime, shulker shells, prismarine, and redstone. Different materials grant effects like item collection, piercing, block shattering, or projectile deflection.
Do I need a Tool Forge to make these weapons?
Boomerangs can be crafted in the Part Builder without a Tool Forge, but other weapons like Heat Ray Guns and Chain Blades require the Tool Station or Tool Forge for assembly.
What happens if my throwing knife gets stuck or lost?
Throwing knives are recoverable from the ground after you throw them, so you can pick them back up. If they land in water or lava, they may be destroyed depending on your world settings.
Can I use these weapons together with regular Tinkers' Construct tools?
Yes—Tinkers' Gadgets is an addon for Tinkers' Construct 2, so all your modular tools and weapons work in the same workshop system and share compatible parts.
How do I know which material is best for my weapon?
Different materials affect durability, damage, and traits—experiment with what you have available early on, then upgrade to harder materials like metal as you progress. The trait effects (piercing, deflection, etc.) matter more for playstyle than raw stats.
