How to Adjust Camera Offset and Distance in Third Person

Moving the Camera Offset

Hold Z and move your mouse. This shifts where your character sits on the screen — the camera offset. Dragging the mouse slides your player left, right, up, or down within the frame, letting you frame your character off-center so you can see more of the world ahead. Release Z when the framing looks right; the offset stays where you left it.

Changing Camera Distance

While still holding Z, scroll your mouse wheel. Scrolling zooms the camera closer to or farther from your character. Pulling back gives a wider view of the terrain; pushing in tightens the shot around your player. This is useful when you want a close over-the-shoulder look for combat or a pulled-back view for exploring.

Combining Both

You can adjust offset and distance in the same Z hold. Set the distance first, then nudge the offset with the mouse. If the camera clips into blocks or feels awkward, scroll out slightly and re-center. Remember the offset is a client-side visual only — it does not change your hitbox or where the server thinks you are.

Tips

  • Hold Z for all manual camera tweaks.
  • Wheel = distance, mouse = position on screen.
  • Re-center with CapsLock if the framing drifts.
