Third Person Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get into third person with this mod?
Press F5 to toggle between first-person and third-person view, just like vanilla. The mod enhances the third-person camera once you are in it.
How do I move the camera around the player in third person?
Hold Z and move your mouse to adjust the camera offset, which changes where the player sits on the screen. Release Z when you are happy with the position.
How do I zoom the camera in or out in third person?
While holding Z, scroll the mouse wheel to change the camera's distance from the player. This lets you pull the view closer or push it further out.
How do I switch the camera between left and right shoulder?
Tap CapsLock to smoothly shift the camera bias between the left and right sides. A short press switches sides; holding CapsLock smoothly centers the view instead.
How do I recenter the camera behind the player?
Hold CapsLock and the camera bias will smoothly move back to the center. Release it once the view is centered.
My third person camera is jittery or stutters — how do I fix it?
If you have Optifine installed, disable Options / Video Settings / Performance / Fast Math. That setting interferes with the mod's smooth camera movement in third person.
Does this mod work on servers, or do I need it installed on the server?
It is a client-side mod, so it works on any server without the server having it installed. It does not change gameplay or affect other players.
Can I use this mod with Optifine?
Yes, but you must turn off Fast Math under Options / Video Settings / Performance. Leaving it on causes unsmooth third-person camera movement.
Why does holding Z not seem to do anything?
The Z controls only apply while you are in third person, so press F5 first. Also make sure you are holding Z while moving the mouse or scrolling, not tapping it.
Is there a way to change the keys for camera offset, distance, or bias?
The mod uses F5, Z, and CapsLock by default, and these can be rebound through the standard Minecraft controls menu. Look for the mod's key bindings there if the defaults conflict with another mod.
