How to Use Eating Animations With Modded Food and Datapacks

Players often want to know whether the eating animation applies to modded foods, custom items, or foods added by datapacks. The answer depends on how the pack defines its animations, so the practical approach is to test and adjust rather than assume.

Testing a Modded Food

Install your food mod alongside the resource pack, then eat one of the modded foods in first-person view. If the animation plays, that item is covered. If it does not, the pack likely only defines animations for vanilla-style food items and the modded item uses its own model.

Why Modded Items May Not Animate

The pack works by pointing specific item models at a custom eating animation. A modded food with a unique model or a different item type may not match those definitions, so it falls back to the default eating motion. This is expected behavior, not a bug in your setup.

Working Around It

If a modded food matters to you, check whether the food mod or another compatibility pack already provides its own eating animation, and load that above this pack. Avoid stacking two packs that animate the same item, since only the top one will show. For datapack foods that reuse vanilla item models, the animation often works automatically because the underlying model is the same.
