The Runic Dust Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get runic dust in the first place?
You craft dust by combining a base dust with elemental ingredients at a crafting table or by grinding materials down. Each element (fire, water, earth, air, and the higher-tier ones) has its own dust color and recipe, so check the dust recipes in JEI/REI once you have the mod loaded.
Why won't my rune activate when I draw it?
The most common causes are an incomplete pattern, drawing on the wrong block type, or missing the required sacrifice. Runes need a valid flat surface and the exact shape — one misplaced dust pixel breaks the whole thing.
How do I erase a rune I messed up?
You can break the rune by hitting it or by placing/removing a block over the dust pattern. Some setups also let you sweep the dust away with a tool, which refunds nothing but clears the ground.
What's the difference between a rune and a rune template?
A rune is the actual drawn pattern on the ground that casts a spell. A template is the saved design you can reuse — you draw it once, save it, then stamp it down again without redrawing every pixel.
How do sacrifices work — do I need to kill mobs on the rune?
Sacrifices are items or entities placed on or near the rune that get consumed when it fires. For advanced runes you typically drop the required item onto the pattern or lure a mob onto it, and the rune consumes it to power the effect.
Can I combine two runes into one bigger spell?
Yes — placing compatible runes adjacent to each other lets them link into a single larger pattern. The combined rune uses more dust and often needs a sacrifice, but produces a stronger or multi-effect spell.
My rune trap isn't killing mobs — what am I doing wrong?
Check that the trap rune is powered (many need a redstone signal or a trigger block) and that mobs are actually walking onto the pattern. Traps also have a cooldown, so rapid mobs may slip through between activations.
Does this mod work with other magic or tech mods?
It's generally compatible with most mods since it adds its own dusts and blocks rather than replacing vanilla ones. Conflicts usually only show up if another mod also modifies the same ground-block placement or redstone behavior.
Will lots of runes lag my world?
Drawn runes are lightweight, but active rune traps and large combined spells that fire frequently can add up. If you notice lag, reduce the number of always-on traps or space them out so they don't all trigger at once.
How do I save a rune so I don't have to redraw it every time?
Use the rune template system — draw the pattern once, then save it to a template item or book. You can then place the saved design down again instantly, which is essential for traps and repeated spell setups.
