The Nofog Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Why is fog still appearing in my world?
Check if you have OptiFine, The Speedrunner Mod, Simple Keybinds, or Quality of Queso installed—these mods conflict with Nofog and may override it. If you have multiple fog-removal mods, disable all but Nofog and restart your world.
Do I need to configure anything after installing Nofog?
No, Nofog works automatically as soon as you load a world—there are no settings to change or menus to open.
Can I turn fog back on in certain biomes or dimensions?
Nofog removes fog globally across all biomes and dimensions by default. If you want fog in specific areas, you'll need to use a config file or datapack to restore it selectively, depending on what the mod supports.
Does Nofog affect performance or cause lag?
Nofog actually improves performance for most players since it removes a rendering effect, though the impact depends on your hardware and other mods.
Why can't I see as far as I expected without fog?
Your render distance setting still limits how far you can see—Nofog only removes the fog overlay, not the world's draw distance. Increase your render distance in video settings if you want to see farther.
Does Nofog work in caves and dark areas?
Yes, Nofog removes fog everywhere, including underground caves and dark areas, giving you a clearer view of lava, stone, and other details.
Is Nofog compatible with shader mods?
Compatibility depends on the specific shader mod—some shaders may reintroduce fog effects or conflict with Nofog's fog removal. Test your shader combination and disable one if they conflict.
Can I use Nofog with OptiFine?
No, OptiFine and Nofog conflict because OptiFine already removes fog. You must choose one or the other.
Does Nofog work on multiplayer servers?
Nofog is a client-side mod, so it works on any server without requiring the server to install it—only you will see the fog removed.
What should I do if Nofog stops working mid-game?
Try reloading your world or restarting Minecraft entirely. If it still doesn't work, verify that no conflicting mods were recently added and check that Nofog is still enabled in your mod list.
