Speed Up World Generation with Tile Caching
How Tile Caching Works
Terrarium Expanded downloads real-world elevation and biome data from AWS Terrarium tiles to generate terrain. The mod automatically saves this downloaded data into a local cache on your computer.
Benefits of Caching
When you revisit previously explored chunks, the mod loads cached tile data instead of downloading it again. This dramatically speeds up chunk generation and reduces network usage. Your first visit to a region takes longer as data downloads, but subsequent visits to the same area load much faster.
Managing Your Cache
The cache accumulates over time as you explore. If you're running low on storage or want to reset your world's data, you can clear the cache—though this means the next visit to those regions will require re-downloading.
For large exploration projects, caching is essential. Plan extended journeys to maximize cache efficiency: exploring a continuous region builds up cached data that speeds future nearby exploration, while jumping between distant locations requires more downloads.
