Terrarium Expanded Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start a new world with Terrarium Expanded?
Create a new world and select Terrarium Expanded as your world type during world creation. You'll then be prompted to choose a zoom level (8–12) that determines your world size and terrain detail; Zoom 10 is recommended for most players as a balanced starting point.
What zoom level should I pick?
Zoom 8–9 load fastest but show broad terrain; Zoom 10 balances detail and performance; Zoom 11–12 show finer real-world accuracy but generate chunks slower. Pick Zoom 10 unless you have a powerful PC or want faster loading on older hardware.
How do I find a specific real-world location in my Minecraft world?
Use the mod's coordinate conversion tools (found in the guides or mod documentation) to translate real-world latitude/longitude into Minecraft X/Z coordinates, then use `/tp` to jump there or navigate manually.
Why is my world generation so slow?
Higher zoom levels (11–12) and biome mod integration both increase generation time. Enable tile caching in your config so downloaded terrain data is saved locally—revisiting areas will load much faster on subsequent visits.
Can I use this mod with Biomes O' Plenty or other biome mods?
Yes, Terrarium Expanded is designed to work directly with Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored, and Nature's Spirit. Install the biome mod alongside Terrarium Expanded and the mod will use those biomes to decorate the real-world terrain.
Does the mod generate rivers and lakes?
Yes, the mod detects and places inland rivers and lakes using real global surface-water data, so water features appear in geographically accurate locations.
What happens to ocean biomes?
Oceans are generated with temperature tiers based on real sea-surface temperature data, so tropical oceans, cold oceans, and frozen oceans appear in their actual geographic zones.
Will my old Minecraft worlds still work?
Terrarium Expanded replaces world generation, so you must create a new world to use it. Your existing worlds are unaffected and will continue to use their original generation.
Can I use datapacks that change world height limits?
Yes, Terrarium Expanded is compatible with datapacks that modify minimum or maximum building heights, so you can adjust your world's vertical range without breaking terrain generation.
What real-world data does the mod use?
The mod uses elevation data from AWS Terrarium tiles, global ecoregion maps for biome placement, global surface-water data for rivers and lakes, and sea-surface temperature data for ocean biomes.
