Terrain Diffusion Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I actually start using this mod?
Install the mod, launch Minecraft, and create a new world—you'll see Terrain Diffusion listed as a world type option. After selecting it, click Customize to adjust your World Scale setting, then generate the world normally.
What does World Scale actually do?
World Scale lets you set how many real-world meters each Minecraft block represents, so you can compress terrain into a smaller space or stretch it across a massive landscape. A smaller scale means taller mountains and deeper valleys in the same block distance.
Do I need a good GPU to use this mod?
A dedicated GPU (NVIDIA or AMD) makes terrain generation much faster, but there's a CPU-only version if you don't have one—it will just take longer to process. Check your GPU in Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Performance tab) to pick the right version.
How do I scout my world before building?
Once in your world, run the command /td-explore to open the web-based map explorer in your browser. You can view elevation, temperature, and terrain layout to plan where you want to build before you start.
What's the difference between the NVIDIA and AMD versions?
The NVIDIA version uses CUDA acceleration and is fastest for GTX/RTX cards, while the AMD version uses DirectML and works on Windows 10/11 with AMD graphics cards. Both are significantly faster than the CPU version.
Can I use this mod with other world generation mods?
Terrain Diffusion replaces the standard world generation entirely, so using it alongside other terrain mods may cause conflicts—select Terrain Diffusion as your world type instead of combining multiple generation mods.
Why is terrain generation taking forever?
If you're using the CPU version or have a slower GPU, large-scale terrain can take time to generate. Try reducing your World Scale to compress the terrain into a smaller area, which will speed up the process.
How does the mod decide which biomes appear?
The mod uses elevation and climate data to automatically assign standard Minecraft biomes to different areas—higher elevations become snowy peaks, lower areas become forests or deserts based on temperature. You can't manually override biome placement.
Do I need to download anything extra after installing the mod?
Yes, when you first launch the game after installing, it will download the required AI model assets automatically. Make sure you have an internet connection and enough disk space for this initial download.
Can I regenerate terrain or change World Scale after creating a world?
World Scale is set when you create the world and affects the entire terrain generation—you'd need to create a new world to change it. The mod doesn't support regenerating terrain in an existing world.
