Mine Efficiently in Long Tunnels and Quarries
Plan Your Tunnel Layout
When mining long distances, position yourself so your hammer's area pattern aligns with your tunnel direction. A wider hammer pattern is ideal for quarrying—you can clear multiple blocks forward and to the sides with each swing, creating a broad tunnel quickly.
Manage Durability and Inventory
Large-area mining drains hammer durability faster than single-block mining. Bring repair materials or a second hammer to swap when durability runs low. Your inventory will fill rapidly with ore and stone drops, so plan frequent trips back to storage or use a hopper system to collect blocks automatically.
Use Sneak Mode for Precision
When you encounter valuable ore or need to preserve specific blocks, crouch before swinging. This triggers single-block mining (if sneak bypass is enabled), letting you carefully extract individual ores without destroying surrounding blocks.
For maximum efficiency, switch between crouching and normal swings: use normal swings for bulk stone removal, then crouch when you spot diamonds, emeralds, or other valuable ores you want to preserve.
