Swift Horizon Vistas Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I enable the mod after installing it?
The mod works automatically once installed—distant terrain rendering starts right away with default settings. You can adjust the view distance and other options in your mod settings menu to customize how far you can see.
Why can I see so far without my game slowing down?
Swift Horizon Vistas uses Level of Detail techniques to render distant terrain as lightweight geometry instead of loading full chunks. It samples your world seed on a grid to generate the distant landscape, which uses far less CPU and memory than normal chunk loading.
What's the maximum distance I can see with this mod?
You can adjust the extra view distance up to around 292 chunks beyond your normal render distance, letting you see landscapes that span incredibly far. The default is set to 144 extra chunks, which you can increase or decrease based on your computer's performance.
How long does it take to generate the distant terrain?
Generation typically takes anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on your processor speed and how far you're rendering. Once generated, the distant terrain stays in memory and renders smoothly without constant recalculation.
Does this mod work with Sodium or Embeddium?
Yes, Swift Horizon Vistas is fully compatible with both Sodium and Embeddium, and works smoothly alongside them to maintain steady frame rates. You can use all three mods together without performance issues.
Will this mod work with my world generation mod?
Swift Horizon Vistas maintains compatibility with world generation mods like Tectonic, so the distant terrain will respect the custom terrain features from those mods. The mod samples your world seed to generate distant geometry, so it adapts to whatever generation rules your world uses.
Can I turn off distant terrain rendering in certain areas?
You can adjust or disable the extra view distance entirely through the mod settings, which will turn off distant terrain rendering. There isn't a per-region toggle, but you can change the setting whenever you want.
Does distant terrain load as real chunks I can build on?
No—distant terrain is lightweight geometry for viewing only and doesn't load as actual chunks. When you travel toward distant terrain and get close enough, the game will load real chunks normally, and the distant geometry will be replaced by actual terrain you can interact with.
Why does my distant terrain look different from up close?
Distant terrain is generated at lower detail using Level of Detail techniques to keep performance high, so it won't have the same block-by-block accuracy as loaded chunks. This is intentional and keeps your frame rate smooth while still showing you the landscape shape and biome colors from far away.
What should I do if the mod is causing lag or stuttering?
Try reducing the extra view distance setting to a lower value—this decreases how much distant terrain is being rendered at once. If you're using other graphics mods, make sure they're updated and compatible, and check that your processor isn't bottlenecking the terrain generation.
