Understand How Structures Are Tracked and Shared

Structure Discovery and Sharing

When you explore and encounter structures like villages, temples, or dungeons, Surveyor automatically records them. These structures are identified by unique IDs and stored with complete information about their pieces and layout. When you share your map with another player, discovered structures sync to their client automatically—they see exactly what you've found.

Structure Data Preservation

Surveyor preserves detailed structure information: each structure's ID, individual pieces, structural tags, and even full NBT data for smaller structures that remain intact. This comprehensive tracking allows any map mod built on Surveyor's API to display structures accurately and completely.

Discovering Structures Together

Structure data is sent to clients as structures are discovered during exploration or when shared between players. If your sharing partner explores a new area with structures, that data syncs to you. Similarly, structures you've already mapped appear on their map when you share. This creates a collaborative mapping experience where exploration efforts combine naturally.
