Surveyor Map Framework Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to install this mod if I just want to play normally?
No. Surveyor Map Framework is a library mod designed for developers. You only need it if another mod you're using depends on it—your mod launcher will handle this automatically.
How do I start using Surveyor's map features?
Once installed, Surveyor automatically begins recording terrain, structures, and landmarks as you explore. Use `/surveyor` to check your exploration progress and `/surveyor share [username]` to sync maps with other players.
What's the difference between owned and unowned landmarks?
Owned landmarks (created with `/surveyor add`) belong to you and only you can remove them. Unowned landmarks (created with `/surveyor global`, requires op level 2) are shared with all players and can be managed by operators.
How do I share my map exploration with friends?
Use `/surveyor share [username]` to send a sharing request. Once they accept, you'll both see each other's explored terrain and discovered structures in real-time.
Can I stop sharing my map with someone?
Yes, use `/surveyor unshare` to leave your sharing group entirely. This stops all map sharing with everyone in your current group.
Will Surveyor make my world save file much larger?
No. Surveyor adds only 2-5% to save size by using an efficient storage format for terrain, structure, and landmark data.
How do I view landmarks across all my worlds?
Use `/surveyor landmarks` to see a breakdown of all landmark types across every world, then `/surveyor landmarks get [type]` to list specific landmarks in your current world.
What happens to my map data if I lose connection or crash?
Surveyor automatically syncs map data and landmarks when you rejoin a sharing group or if client data is lost, so you won't lose your exploration progress.
Can I remove a landmark I didn't create?
Only operators can remove landmarks they don't own using `/surveyor remove [type] [pos]`. Regular players can only remove their own landmarks.
Does Surveyor work with cave and nether maps?
Yes. Surveyor records terrain in multiple layers, so map mods can display usable cave and nether maps alongside your overworld exploration data.
